Yoga Nidra Guided Meditation

Yoga Nidra is an extraordinary guided journey to the core of your soul.

In Sanskrit, Yoga Nidra means “yogic sleep,” but it’s far from the typical sleep you know! Yoga Nidra enables profound relaxation of the entire body and complete stress relief, all while engaging both the conscious and subconscious mind in an exceptionally expanded state. The ancient sages understood that true enlightenment is attained when we detach ourselves from our body, stress, and lower frequencies to connect with our Atman, our Soul, in the most profound and tangible way. Yoga Nidra serves as a release from “what is” in your current life, allowing you to explore “all that is possible” within the Universe. It extends an invitation into Source energy, and once attained, it becomes a realm of boundless love, interconnectedness, rejuvenation, and tranquility.

Yoga Nidra involves delving deep into our inner selves through six progressive stages of relaxation, beginning with the physical body, moving through the breath, and reaching even deeper layers. It can be practiced while lying down, in a comfortable chair, or in any position that allows complete relaxation. This practice permits us to delve within ourselves and connect with a profoundly pure aspect of our being, enabling us to make adjustments in the subconscious mind based on resolutions set before the practice. These resolutions might involve experiencing more love, acceptance, abundance, courage, or any other qualities we deeply desire in our lives. Yoga Nidra also naturally leads to stress relief, increased energy and healing, a clearer mind, and numerous other benefits. It’s an accessible and nurturing practice that can bring about significant positive changes and even transformation in our lives.

This adaptation draws inspiration from an “Insight Timer” blog that deeply resonated with me: “Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation also known as “yogic sleep.” It’s typically practiced lying down with a teacher guiding the session. This practice turns our attention inward, allowing us to navigate between the states of wakefulness and sleep, where our body finds its natural state of balance. The breath becomes balanced and tranquil, and both the unconscious and conscious aspects of the mind reveal themselves, leading us into an innate state of profound, blissful awareness. Yoga Nidra takes you through six levels of relaxation while maintaining a state of consciousness. This practice contributes to overall well-being and stress reduction. The deep relaxation facilitated by Yoga Nidra creates a calm and receptive mental state, which is invaluable for uncovering and releasing deeply entrenched limiting beliefs (samskaras). Through the use of a Sankalpa or personal resolve, this practice provides space for transforming the inner self-talk patterns we’ve developed throughout our lives.

The Sankapla is typically linked to a limiting belief that we are working to change—a belief that no longer serves our highest good. Through Yoga Nidra, as we become aware of these limiting beliefs, we can offer them up for transformation, allowing us to operate from a more open and authentic way of being.

IMPORTANT NOTE:
It is recommended to have a comfortable sitting or lying down arrangement. Pillows and covers may be needed as well. The surface is advisable to be soft, as being in a lying down or sitting position for 50 minutes may create discomfort if not soft. Ensure a quiet space, silence your phones, and have a journal and pen to jot down thoughts that arise after meditation.

Below is a meditation I created for the YMCA of San Francisco in February 2020, when the entire world went into lockdown.
This short 16-minute meditation will provide listeners with a sample of my voice.
